ABSTRACT
This research work focus on influence of self medication on the recovery period of patient, using The Polytechnic Ibadan Adeseun Ogundoyin Campus, Eruwa as a case study. The researcher collected primary data by preparing questionnaire to elicit the responses from the respondent. The response was coded and the required data were collected.
The data was subjected to statistical analysis using the student distribution to test whether the attitude of people towards self medication, effect of self medication and benefit of self medication are independent or not.
After careful designed questionnaire on influence of self medication on the recovery period of patient . It was discovered from the respondents that there is effect on self medication practice in such a way that it can make the sickness worse and is a practice of death and perception on ability of medical personal is a worrisome concern in case of not attend to patients instantly and prescribed cost drug for patient. It is therefore imperative for the government to have a matter of urgent look to orientate the citizen that self medication is not good and procuring drugs and professional medical personnel I all our health care centers.

1.1 BACKGROUND OF THE STUDY
Self medication is a human behavior in which an individual uses a substances or any exogenous influence to self administer treatment for often unmanaged undiagnosed physical or psychological ailment.
The psychology of such behavior is typical within the specific context of using recreational drugs psychoactive drug, alcohol and other forms of behavior to alleviate symptoms of mental distress, stress and anxiety, including, mental illness and psychological trauma.
Self medication is often seen as gaining personal independence from established medicine, and it can be seen as a human right, implicitly or closely related to the right to refuse professional medical treatment.
Generally speaking, self medication is define as the use of drug to treat self diagnosed disorder or symptoms or the intermittent or continued use of a prescribed drug for chronic or recurrent disease or symptoms.
According to self Medication Hypothesis (SMH) as different drugs have different effects so also they may be use for different reason (s)
According to self Medication Hypothesis (SMH) the individual choice of a particular drug is not accidental or coincidental, but in stead, a result of the individual choice of the drug that will most appropriately manage their specific type of psychiatric distress and help them achieve emotional stability. Substance (Drug) abuse is use of any illegal (Marijuana, cocaine, heroin) or appropriate use of controlled substances.....
